The Amoria project of the Labeque sisters brings together pieces of Basque creators from the last 500 years.

It is one of the most significant piano duo on the international scene and this time, wanting to return to their roots and pay homage to Basque music, they get in touch with Thierry Biscary.

To accompany the project the Hegiak quintet, formed by the txalapartaris of Oreka TX (Harkaitz Mtz of San Vicente and Mikel Ugarte), Thierry Biscary, Eñaut Elorrieta and Ander Zulaika, is created.

The countertenor from Vitoria Carlos Mena, the violinist of prawn Elena Martínez de Murguía or the choir Easo Eskolaina, are other of the great artistic collaborations that the project includes.

For this special tribute, pieces from the sixteenth century to the present have been chosen, from Antxieta, Sarasate, Aita Donostia, Guridi and Ravel, as well as pieces by Thierry Biscary and Oreka TX, together with other anonymous popular songs.

Specifically, Oreka TX has composed the piece “Batera”, expressly for this project, reinterpreting the possibilities of the wooden txalaparta.

“Amoria” gathers, among others, Haika Mutil, Haurtxoa Seaskan, Deskalabratua Naiz and Ave Maria, together with Elurra Iruñan et Discret charme aux arbres, from the contemporary repertoire. A personal reading of Ravel’s bolero will be the final great culmination of the show.

After passing through several theaters in Austria, Germany and France, these days the show will be in Euskal Herria.

The project will be edited in digital format, at the Elkar Studios in Donostia, recorded by the Labeque sisters in Rome and in the convent of Santa Cruz de Azkoitia during July 2018.
